Health Equity at the Forefront: Commissioner McDonald’s Vision for New York’s Public Health

Dr. McDonald stressed the importance of aligning all aspects of the department to eliminate health disparities and achieve the highest level of health for all New Yorkers. He pointed out that achieving health equity involves intentionally addressing socioeconomic disadvantages and systemic injustices, as not everyone begins at the same starting point. He underscored the ongoing public health challenges and the necessity of integrating social determinants of health into policy-making to extend life-enhancing resources across populations effectively.
