COVID-19 Update for Ambulatory and Primary Care Settings

COVID-19 variants and other respiratory viruses continue to circulate. The NYSDOH has stated that COVID-19 is a treatable disease, and primary and ambulatory care clinics should evaluate and manage patients in person, as clinically indicated, while following best practices for infection control. The NYSDOH has also encouraged patients to contact ambulatory care providers when they develop illness because treatment is available. Paxlovid and Lagevrio are now available to treat COVID-19, and healthcare providers should consider patients on a case-by-case basis to determine if treatment is indicated. The NYSDOH has provided best practices for healthcare providers, including promoting prevention by encouraging patients to stay current with all recommended vaccines and maintaining vaccines on-site to provide to patients as needed. The NYSDOH also offers a free hotline for individuals who test positive for COVID-19 and lack a healthcare provider or cannot connect with their healthcare provider. Read the full DOH notification.
