200+ Physicians and Advocates Rally for Healthcare at MSSNY’s Physician Advocacy Day
On Tuesday, March 14th, MSSNY hosted its annual Physician Advocacy Day. Despite a large snowstorm that hit much of the state, we were thrilled to see 200 physicians and healthcare advocates attend the event. We want to express our deepest gratitude to all those who participated and made the day a success.
We appreciate the flexibility and understanding of our attendees as the event quickly had to be moved to a virtual format due to the inclement weather. The snowstorm did not dampen our spirits, and we were still able to engage in productive discussions and hear from several esteemed speakers. This was particularly important, given that the Senate and Assembly were both finalizing their respective “one-House” Budgets.
We heard from Dr. James McDonald (Acting Commissioner of Health), Senator Gustavo Rivera (Chair – Senate Health Committee), Assemblymember David Weprin (Chair – Assembly Insurance Committee), Assemblymember Amy Paulin (Chair – Assembly Health Committee), Senate Minority Leader Robert Ortt, and Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay. They provided valuable insights into legislative priorities and how we can work together to improve healthcare in our state.
The informative presentations by MSSNY leadership, the Division of Governmental Affairs, and Specialty Society leaders were also appreciated. We were able to learn about current issues affecting physicians and healthcare in New York, and how we can advocate for change.
In the afternoon following the morning program, MSSNY and county medical society physician leaders met virtually with their respective legislators. These meetings provided an opportunity for physicians to connect directly with their elected officials and discuss issues that impact their patients and practices.
Again, we are grateful to all who attended and contributed to the success of Physician Advocacy Day. Your dedication to improving healthcare in New York is commendable. Together, we can continue to make a difference and advocate for positive change in our state. Thank you again for your participation and support.
