For many years, MSSNY has provided medical student membership at no cost. During that time, thousands of students have taken advantage of leadership opportunities, advocacy initiatives, educational resources, networking opportunities, and member-exclusive benefits.

As our Medical Student Section has grown, MSSNY has worked closely with the MSS Governing Council to identify the programs, benefits, and opportunities that are most valuable to medical students. Based on this feedback, and with approval from the MSS Governing Council, MSSNY Board of Trustees, and MSSNY Council, MSSNY is introducing an updated membership model for medical students.

Beginning with the 2027 membership year, medical student membership will transition to a prorated membership fee structure.  This one-time fee covers  membership through graduation, calculated by the expected year of graduation.

This prorated structure provides membership throughout medical school while keeping costs modest for students at every stage of training.

Why the change?

Our goal is to build a stronger and more engaged community of future physicians. This revised membership model will support expanded programming and benefits while encouraging continued participation and connection throughout medical school and beyond.

MSSNY is expanding the benefits and opportunities available to medical students based on student feedback. Along with discounted educational resources from leading platforms such as AMBOSS, Sketchy, and Boards & Beyond, members will benefit from new career development resources, including an AI-enhanced Physician Career Center, expanded Beyond the Bedside educational programming, and additional residency and physician leadership programming.

We understand that changes to membership structures require clear and timely communication. Additional updates will be shared in the coming weeks as these programs and benefits are finalized.

We hope medical students will continue their involvement with MSSNY and encourage their fellow medical students to join this growing community. We look forward to continuing to expand and modernize our programs, benefits, and opportunities based on feedback from medical student members.
