New Resources Now Available to Help Stay Informed on Current Public Health Concerns
The World Health Organization (WHO) reports a confirmed 1,963 cases and 719 deaths from the Bundibugyo Ebola outbreak in The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Uganda. WHO also estimates that the true number of cases and deaths is at least double the official numbers. Learn more about ebolavirus at the MSSNY CME website by viewing Medical Matters: Ebola: What Physicians Need to Know About the 2026 Outbreak.
You can also listen to the new MSSNY podcast: The Rules of Contagion: Why Viruses Do What They Do, for more information from Dr. Bill Valenti, chair of MSSNY Infectious Diseases Committee, on Ebola and Hantavirus.
Of other concern are the ongoing measles outbreaks in the United States. In 2025 there were 2,286 cases of measles, and as of July 10, 2026, there have already been 2,250, according to the Johns Hopkins measles tracker.
MSSNY created a new podcast that highlights recognizable features of vaccine-preventable diseases, such as measles, for physicians who may not have (but increasingly likely will) seen them first-hand.
