Resilience in Practice: Dr. Alan Diaz Confronts Bias in Medicine
Resilience in Practice: Underrepresented Physicians of New York launches this week with its first video, featuring Dr. Alan Diaz. While visiting a hospitalized family member, the attending physician granted Dr. Diaz professional courtesy to view medical records and assist in care. Despite his credentials, he was confronted by a nurse and three armed guards who accused him of impersonating a doctor.
Produced by MSSNY’s Minority Affairs Section, this new video series explores the powerful stories of New York’s underrepresented physicians as they navigate challenges and transform healthcare. Dr. Diaz’s experience is a striking reminder of the bias that persists in clinical settings and the resilience required to rise above it.
