Help Us Help You
Colleagues:
Cigna and Aetna both have announced and/or begun an exercise where they are systematically downcoding from a level 4 to 3 on all visits for a subset of physicians. Cigna announced that this will only apply to 1-3 % of its in-network physicians. I am asking you, our members, to help us to help you by asking your billing services to monitor this systematic downcoding and report your findings to the Medical Society. We at MSSNY believe this violates the law and need examples to complain to the New York State Department of Financial Services. All options are on the table for reversing this. We have taken on insurance abuses and won for our members before; we will not hesitate to do so again.
Furthermore, the Personal Injury Lawyer Bonanza Act, or GFA 4.0 (Grieving Families Act), sits on Governor Hochul’s desk, and calls for another veto. NY already has by far the highest Medical Liability payouts of any state, and this law, if enacted, will deliver a further blow to our health care system, one still reeling from the draconian medicaid cuts due to HR1. Please get everyone you know to send a letter via our grassroots action center and call the governor at 518.474.8390.
If you are a member, please renew your membership now. If you are not a member and are a NYS Physician, please join. Also, please give to our PAC.
Now more than ever, the collective voice of physicians matters. Your voice matters. Please help us help you.
All the best,
David Jakubowicz, MD, FACS
MSSNY President
