The Medical Society of Erie County (MSCE) hosted its “Save a Life!” Gala on October 10, marking the launch of a vital community health initiative focused on empowering the public with life-saving skills. The event featured keynote speaker Dr. Gale Burstein, Erie County Health Commissioner, who addressed opioid overdose prevention with her presentation titled “Physicians: The New OD Prevention Superheroes.”

Several distinguished physicians were honored for their contributions to medicine, including Dr. Joshua Lynch and Dr. Gregory Bennett with Outstanding Service Awards, and Dr. Nancy Nielsen and Dr. Thomas Lombardo with Lifetime Achievement Awards. The evening also saw the installation of new MSCE leadership, led by incoming President Dr. Iris Danziger.

Outgoing President Dr. Stacey Watt expressed her excitement about the new leadership, stating, “We are excited to welcome our new officers and committee chairs. Their leadership has been, and will be, crucial in advancing our mission and the Save a Life! Campaign.” This initiative aims to teach the public critical skills such as Narcan administration, hands-only CPR, and Stop the Bleed techniques, furthering MSCE’s commitment to enhancing community health and safety across Western New York.
