Physicians Review Medicare Payment Reform

The recently introduced Patients First Act, H.R. 9693, picked up a third co-sponsor from the New York State Congressional delegation this week. Representative Tim Kennedy (Erie County) joined Representatives Joseph Morelle (Monroe County) and Tom Suozzi (Nassau County) as New Yorkers among the bipartisan list of 65 Congresspersons co-sponsoring this important legislation to better align Medicare payment updates with the actual costs of care and inflation.  This legislation is particularly important as physicians face yet another Medicare payment cut in 2027 if Congress does not act.

MSSNY together with the AMA and the 49 other state medical associations joined in a letter to Congressional leaders urging that HR 9693 be enacted as soon as possible. The legislation and the need for Medicare payment reform was also an important focus at a recent Erie County Medical Society legislative breakfast program which included key staff from Rep. Kennedy’s office.

MSSNY is continuing to urge other New York delegation members to join as co-sponsors of HR 9693. Physicians should continue to urge their Representative and Senators Schumer and Gillibrand to support this legislation and urge that it be incorporated into the post-election “lame duck” end-of-year spending package.
