NYS DOH Drops Masking Requirements in Health Care Facilities
The New York State Department of Health will allow masking requirements in healthcare facilities to expire on February 12th. The masking requirements were put into place by the state and the CDC due to the pandemic. The requirement applied to staff, patients, and visitors in all hospitals and other healthcare facilities. Acting Health Commissioner James V. McDonald, MD, said that the decision not to request a renewal of the emergency regulations was due in part to the decreasing levels of COVID-19 infections and hospitalizations. However, hospitals and other healthcare facilities could enact a masking requirement for workers, patients, and visitors. Physicians who are in private practice can also enact masking requirements and other safety protocols that are related to any type of infectious disease outbreak. The New York State Department of Health is also in the process of assessing how the end of the public health emergency in May will impact the medical community and patients.
