New York is 2023’s 8th Worst State for Doctors
This week WalletHub released its report on 2023’s Best & Worst States for Doctors, and New York ranks as the 8th worst state to practice medicine. WalletHub compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia across 19 key metrics to identify the best states for those in the business of medicine. The data set ranges from the average annual wage of physicians to hospitals per capita to the quality of the public hospital system.
Practicing in New York (1=Best, 25=Avg.):
- 46th – Avg. Annual Wage of Physicians (Adjusted for Cost of Living)
- 22nd – Avg. Monthly Starting Salary of Physicians (Adjusted for Cost of Living)
- 51st – Hospitals per Capita
- 28th – Projected % of Population Aged 65 & Older by 2030
- 47th – Projected Physicians per Capita by 2030
- 46th – Punitiveness of State Medical Board
- 47th – Malpractice Award Payout Amount per Capita
- 50th – Annual Malpractice Liability Insurance Rate
