MSSNY Weighs in on Scope of Practice

MSSNY President Dr. Paul A. Pipia, MD’s voice on scope of practice was heard loud and clear this week in both a Newsday article and letter to the editor of the Albany Times Union.

Dr. Pipia told Newsday, “The physician should be the leader of the team,” and again reiterated that in the Times Union, stating, “Physician assistants and nurse practitioners are essential for health care delivery, but they are not a substitute for trained physicians.”

Also in Newsday, Nassau County Medical Society President Dr. David Podwall’s letter to the editor reiterated this same point that physicians should lead team-based care.
