MSSNY Alarmed at Passage of Grieving Families Act
The Medical Society of the State of New York expressed alarm and “profound concern” at the Legislature’s passage of the Grieving Families Act, which would allow families in wrongful death cases to collect damages for emotional harm. “This new bill remains substantially similar to bills previously vetoed by Governor Hochul,” MSSNY President Dr. Jerome Cohen said in a statement. “Our concerns with this proposal remain unchanged — the staggering increases in liability insurance costs on top of our already unaffordable liability premiums without the inclusion of any balancing measure to contain these costs.”
