MISSION STATEMENT

The Young Physicians Section (YPS) is the voice of young physicians in the State of New York.

It accomplishes this mission by identifying and responding to needs and goals of young physicians as they seek to deliver the highest quality of care to patients. YPS advises the MSSNY on how to focus its resources to better serve the needs and goals of the young physician, provides the perspective of young physicians in policy processes, and educates young physicians on professional matters and on the structure and function of MSSNY and the Federation.

A young physician is defined as anyone age 40 and under who has completed residency training or anyone, regardless of age, who has completed residency training within the past eight years. In order to actively participate in the activities of the Section, a physician must be a member of the Medical Society of the State of New York (MSSNY) and the county medical society where he or she resides or practices.

ORGANIZED MEDICAL STAFF SECTION

Welcome to the Medical Society of the State of New York’s Organized Medical Staff Section (OMSS)! As per the MSSNY Bylaws “ ‘The Organized Medical Staff Section shall represent physicians on the medical staffs of acute care hospitals located in New York State; of psychiatric inpatient facilities maintained by the State of New York or its political subdivisions; and of hospitals with inpatient programs certified by the New York State Office of Mental Health; and of other health facilities and delivery systems’ … ‘The purpose of the Organized Medical Staff Section shall be to offer education and assistance to physicians and their medical staff organizations and to represent their interests and concerns. Membership in the MSSNY Organized Medical Staff Section shall be those MSSNY physician members in good standing who are physician members of their respective hospital medical staff.’ ”

Your MSSNY OMSS is here to represent your voice for all matters related to your Medical Staff Society at your institution, such as Staff Society Bylaws, contract negotiations, Physician privileges and more. Your MSSNY OMSS has both a Delegate to represent your voice at the MSSNY House of Delegates meeting, and a Councilor, to represent your voice at the MSSNY Council meetings for deliberations between annual House of Delegates meetings. Additionally, several members of our MSSNY OMSS act as representatives of our individual Medical Staff Societies at the American Medical Association’s Organized Medical Staff Society Sectional Meetings. These Sectional meetings occur in conjunction with the American Medical Association’s Annual (June) and Interim (November) meetings and are typically a one-day business meeting directly preceding the main American Medical Association Meeting. If you would like to join our delegation to attend this meeting and represent your Medical Staff Society at your institution, please register via the appropriate forms in the Resources section below.
