Ramin Rak, MD, FAANS, FCNS Elected Vice President
of the Medical Society of the State of New York
MSSNY is the State’s Primary Professional Organization for Physicians
Westbury, NY – March 30, 2026 – Ramin Rak, MD, FAANS, FCNS, was elected Vice President of the Medical Society of the State of New York on March 28.
A board-certified neurosurgeon and senior partner at NSPC Brain & Spine Surgery, with more than three decades of experience in complex brain and spine surgery, Dr Rak currently serves as Chief of Neurosurgery at St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center and Director of Neurosurgical Trauma Services and the Brain and Spine Tumor Program at Mount Sinai South Nassau. His career reflects a sustained focus on clinical excellence, innovation, and the improvement of outcomes for patients with complex neurological conditions.
Dr. Rak received his undergraduate degree with high honors in Medical Basic Sciences and his medical degree from the Free University of Brussels, Belgium. He then completed an externship followed by an internship and another year of General Surgery residency in the department of surgery at Washington Hospital Center, Washington, D.C. Dr. Rak was a clinical neurosurgery fellow, NIH/NINDS/Surgical Neurology Branch, Bethesda, MD and a neurosurgery resident at the department of neurosurgery, George Washington University, Washington, D.C. and University of New Mexico.
In addition to his clinical leadership, Dr. Rak has made significant contributions to organized medicine at the county, state, and specialty levels. He serves as a MSSNY Delegate and previously served as President of the Suffolk County Medical Society, the Suffolk Academy of Medicine, and the New York State Neurosurgical Society, demonstrating a consistent commitment to physician advocacy and professional leadership.
Dr. Rak has a strong background in research and public health leadership, having contributed to decades of neuroscience and clinical research and service on the New York State Department of Health’s Spinal Cord Injury Research Board. His work reflects a deep commitment to advancing science, improving patient outcomes, and supporting innovation in care delivery.
As Vice President, Dr. Rak will help guide MSSNY’s strategic priorities at a time when physicians continue to face significant administrative, financial, and workforce challenges. His experience, leadership, and dedication to the profession will play a critical role in strengthening MSSNY’s advocacy on behalf of physicians and the patients they serve.
