Physicians are increasingly called to lead beyond the bedside. In a recent webinar, Dr. Bernadette Riley underscored the urgent need for physicians to engage in health advocacy, emphasizing how policy involvement shapes patient care and medicine’s future. Dr. Riley, Director of the NYIT Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome/Hypermobility Treatment Center, offered practical pathways for physicians to bring their expertise into public discourse and legislative arenas.
Complementing this, Dr. Bonnie Litvack, Past-President of MSSNY, shared her experiences guiding physicians through the turbulence of the COVID-19 pandemic. Her presentation, Leadership in Uncertain Times, highlighted the resilience, adaptability, and vision required of physician leaders when navigating crises. Both sessions underscore MSSNY’s commitment to equipping physicians with the tools to influence healthcare policy, strengthen professional communities, and protect the practice of medicine in New York.
