Vilma A. Joseph, M.D. | Bronx County
MSSNY Member Since 2019
- What do you love most about being a physician?
I love being able to help patients safely get through some of the arduous portions of their lives. As an anesthesiologist, I maintain the physiologic status of patients and make sure they emerge from anesthesia comfortable and safe. I also love to promote preventive health measures (i.e. smoking cessation, healthy eating, exercise, etc) during this crossroad in a patient’s life.
- What’s your favorite part of being a member of MSSNY and/or your county society?
My favorite part of being a MSSNY member and past president of the Bronx County Medical Society is interfacing with the community. I enjoy attending community health fairs and explaining the benefits of healthy living. Another role I played was reaching out to the students in my community and giving them a framework on how to achieve a career in healthcare. I firmly believe that we have to let those children who never imagined being a physician see that it is possible.
- How do you define success?
Success to me entails having a happy family, healthy patients and dynamic career.
- Tell us about something you enjoy outside of work, a cause you support, a hobby, a family activity, or anything else that is important to you.
I enjoy going to the gym with my daughter. She is a preteen, so this time together is precious. I love to encourage a healthy lifestyle while having fun. We both love to swim, so we spend hours in the pool together. In summary, my passion for workforce development is deeply rooted in my own experiences and the belief that education is a catalyst for positive change. By focusing on the Bronx community, I love to create lasting improvements that will benefit not only the current residents but also future generations.
