Advisory: Pox Updates–Epidemiology, Reporting, Prevention, and Treatment

An advisory has been issued to healthcare providers in New York, warning of the ongoing outbreak of mpox (formerly known as monkeypox), which has so far affected over 86,000 people in multiple countries. Regardless of gender identity or sexual preference, healthcare providers are advised to watch for signs of mpox, which include a rash and flu-like symptoms. The virus can be spread through direct contact with an infectious rash, scabs, and/or body fluids and through respiratory secretions during face-to-face contact, intimate physical contact, and fomites. Vaccination with JYNNEOS is recommended for anyone at risk of infection.
