Veterans Matters Collaborative Teaching Day

The Medical Society of the State of New York, Crouse Health and Syracuse University are proud to announce a “Veterans Matters Collaborative Teaching Day with MSSNY, SU, and Crouse Health” on Thursday, October 26th, 2023, at the National Veterans Resource Center (NVRC) At Syracuse University, 101 Waverly Ave, Syracuse, NY 13244.  Doors open at 7:00 am for registration and refreshments.  Please click to view flyer and preregister ahead of time.  This event will be held in person, but there will also be the option to attend virtually.  There is no charge for participation.

These seminars will focus on the mental health needs of veterans and faculty for the day will be: David Podwall, MD; Frank Dowling, MD; Maria Basile, MD; Mary Lee-Wong, MD; Adolf Meyer, MD; John McIntyre, MD; Janine Fogarty, MD; Thomas Madejski, MD; Lt. Col. Lance Allen Wang, Sharran Chambers-Murphy. The eight seminars that will be presented are:

  • TBI in Returning Veterans – David Podwall, MD
  • PTSD in Returning Veterans – Frank Dowling, MD
  • The Special Mental Health Needs of Women Veterans – Maria Basile, MD; Assisted by Sharran Chambers-Murphy
  • Burn Pits: Psychological and Physical Impact on Veterans – Mary Lee-Wong, MD
  • Military Culture: Everything Physicians Need to Know About Veterans as Patients – Lt. Col. Lance Allen Wang, Adolf Meyer, MD
  • Suicide in Veterans – John McIntyre, MD
  • The Impact of Military Sexual Trauma (MST) on Veterans –Janine Fogarty, MD; Assisted by Sharran Chambers-Murphy
  • Substance Use Disorders in Veterans- Thomas Madejski, MD

Funding for this program is provided by a New York State Senate Legislative Grant and the New York State Office of Mental Health.  This program is open to all physicians, residents, medical students and other health care providers. This program will allow participants to earn up to eight hours of CME credits free of charge.

The Medical Society of the State of New York is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The Medical Society of the State of New York designates this live activity for a maximum of 1.0 AMA PRA Category 1 credits™ per session. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
