Cigna Policy May Impact Reimbursement for High-Level Claims

Physicians are expressing concern over a new Cigna billing policy, effective Oct. 1, that reviews high-level office visit claims and adjusts payments without prior consultation, potentially leading to lost revenue and increased administrative work. New York-based oncologist Dr. David Eagle, Chair of MSSNY’s Private Practice Committee and President-elect of the Suffolk County Medical Society, says the policy uses claims filed rather than the more accurate medical record, “and then it’s the problem of the physician to fight back, claim by claim, visit by visit, to get paid appropriately.”
