Contact your Congressional Representatives Today to Stop the Medicare Cuts Madness!
With CMS’ announcement of another 2.8% cut to Medicare physician payments in 2025 due to varying federal law provisions, physicians must once again press on their Senators and US Representatives to pass legislation (HR 2474) to end this perpetual cycle of proposed cuts and partial restorations.
Physicians can send a letter from here: Take Action | Fix Medicare Now. With members of Congress away from DC and home in their districts for an August break, now is a great time to join your colleagues to meet with them.
In March, Congress enacted a partial, not but not full, restoration of the 3.37% Medicare physician payment cut that went into effect on January 1. To make matters worse, in addition to the 2024 payment cut, physicians remain the only health care providers whose Medicare payments do not automatically receive an annual inflationary update.
As a result, Medicare physician payments have lagged 29% behind the rate of inflation growth since 2001.
Multiple pieces of legislation have been introduced to address these issues but so far Congress has refused to act. For example, H.R. 2474, championed by a bi-partisan group of physician members of Congress and supported by over a hundred cosponsors, would reform this flawed system and provide annual inflationary updates, based on the Medicare Economic Index (MEI), for Medicare physician services, similar to updates received by other health care providers.
MSSNY recently joined the AMA and over 120 medical associations across the country in a joint letter to Congressional leaders urging immediate action to reverse the growing Medicare patient access to care crisis in large part caused by failure to address annual steep cuts in Medicare physician payment.
Working together we can push Congress to end the madness. Please contact your US Representative and Senator Schumer and Gillibrand today! Take Action | Fix Medicare Now
