All Politics is Local – Join Our Grassroots Efforts by Becoming a PAL
“All politics is local”. One of the oldest truisms, coined nearly 100 years ago, is as true today as it was then, and serves as a reminder for physicians to get involved in politics at the local level. The delivery of healthcare is highly regulated and often shaped by legislation coming out of Albany and Washington.
That’s why we are asking you to participate in our “Political Action Liaison (PAL) Network Program” by volunteering to become a key contact for your local state Assembly members, Senators, and members of Congress to help them better understand the profession, as well as the patients we serve.
Many of you have already worked closely with your local legislators. Please let us know so we can add you to our PAL list!
Throughout the year, your colleagues have participated in numerous local grassroots events. For example, the Medical Societies of the Counties of New York, Erie, and Onondaga have Legislative Breakfast events for their regional legislators. The Suffolk County Medical Society has a similar event scheduled for September. Then, there is participation with MSSNYPAC in local political events across the state, as some of your colleagues have already done. MSSNY will continue to make its best efforts to engage more and more physician volunteers as we continue to build upon our strong grassroots program, PAL Network Program, and MSSNYPAC.
As a PAL, you should have some understanding of MSSNY’s legislative program, and we will be guiding you through the process. However, the major purpose is to ensure that legislators know the physicians they are representing, and that knowledge will help guide their decision-making process.
Remember, MSSNY has no political affiliation. Our goal is to protect our patients’ access to needed healthcare and to ensure that the profession of medicine’s voice is clearly heard and respected as policy decisions about care delivery are being debated in Albany and Washington.
Join us in our collective mission to improve healthcare delivery. Be a PAL. Contact Ms. Oksana V. Golovina, Esq., MSSNY’s Associate Legislative Counsel at [email protected] or click here.
