With sweltering temperatures blanketing the country this summer, Medical Society of the State of New York President Dr. Jerome Cohen offers expert advice on identifying and treating heat stroke and heat exhaustion. “The difference between heat exhaustion and heat stroke [is that] with heat exhaustion, you see skin that’s kind of pale and cold and clammy, whereas, with heat stroke, the skin is going to be hot and red,” says Cohen, who also discusses serious implications, including organ damage, of these heat-related conditions.
