MSSNY President Dr. Jakubowicz Explains FDA’s Phaseout of Synthetic Dyes

Medical Society of the State of New York President Dr. David Jakubowicz discusses the FDA’s move to phase out petroleum-based food dyes, which he says are associated with carcinogens, irritation in the stomach or hypersensitivity, and that any ultra processed food is less healthy than minimally processed foods and it is best to get your food from a farmer than something manufactured by the food industry. “It’s trying to basically make more natural dyes that make the food industry’s products more attractive,” Dr. Jakubowicz said. Kraft Heinz has announced that it will remove artificial dyes from its products by the end of 2027.
