Colleagues:

One of the best parts of serving as President of MSSNY is meeting with our members across the state and witnessing the incredible work being done by our Counties, Districts, Committees, AMA Delegation, and leadership.

This past week, I had the pleasure of traveling to Staten Island to attend their fantastic Legislative Dinner and see firsthand how effectively they engage with our elected representatives. I then traveled to Queens for their Presidential Gala—a powerful event where a strong county honored its own in grand style. Tomorrow, I’ll be in NYC at the invitation of the New York State Neurosurgical Society. Next week, I look forward to spending two days in the Bronx for the stated meeting and Doctor’s Day.

I also had the privilege of attending meetings of the Private Practice Committee and the Women’s Section, chairing our weekly Executive Committee meeting, and leading the Public Health Reference Review Committee in preparation for the upcoming AMA. I then joined another Great Lakes Caucus Review to represent New York’s perspective and help advance our HOD resolutions. In between, I listened to our CME on Traumatic Brain Injury and handled numerous calls and emails from members and staff.

Of course, I did take a break on Mother’s Day to cook for 11 in celebration of the amazing mothers in my life—my mother, my aunt, my girlfriend, and her mother. It was also wonderful to send wishes to many of you. And to those I didn’t get a chance to connect with personally: a belated but heartfelt Happy Mother’s Day.

The simple takeaway from this week is that MSSNY and our County Medical Societies offer so many opportunities for involvement—but it’s up to you to seize them. Let us know how we can best support and amplify your talents. And remember to take time to appreciate your own pillars of support—your family and friends. I especially enjoy events where both worlds come together, as I saw this week when members brought children and spouses to help maintain that balance.

Wishing you all a great weekend. Thank you once again for the opportunity and privilege to serve as your President.

All the best,

David Jakubowicz, MD, FACS
