
MSSNY Member Advocates for Medical Aid in Dying Legislation
Longtime family physician and hospice medical director Dr. Jay Federman advocates for passage this year of the Medical Aid in Dying Act, which has been debated in the New York General Assembly for a decade. Dr. Federman, a MSSNY member, notes the support of the legislation by the Medical Society of the State of New York, as well as the New York Academy of Family physicians, writing that 10 states and Washington, D.C., have such laws and “there have been no substantiated instances of abuse or coercion in spite of the opposition’s ardent desire to find some.”
