Congress Expanded Medicare Telehealth Coverage Through September

A six-month extension of the COVID-era Medicare telehealth waivers was included in the Continuing Resolution (CR) passed by Congress and signed into law, continuing this expanded coverage until September 30, 2025. Telehealth waivers were set to expire on March 31st, which would have eliminated many telehealth options for Medicare beneficiaries.

Among the important provisions extended in the CR include that there are no geographic limitations on where the patient or the eligible provider is physically located, within the United States, during the telehealth service, and that physicians and other providers may use audio-only technology to provide reimbursable telehealth services.

While the Telehealth extension is temporary, advocacy efforts will continue to make the current temporary policy permanent as they play an important role in providing access to care for seniors across the state.

MSSNY will continue to track this issue and update members as necessary.
