Political Events Scuttle Tentative Medicare Budget Deal

Political developments over the last 48 hours have scuttled a deal that had been reached between the US House and US Senate to fund the government for three months and to enact a number of “health care extenders” including mostly eliminating the planned 2.8% cut to Medicare payments to physicians in 2025 and extending for two years certain Medicare telehealth coverage flexibilities. As of this writing, there is not a definitive answer whether Congress will reach a new deal to stop the impending Medicare physician payment cut for 2025, as well as the numerous other health care extenders provisions.

Last week, MSSNY issued a press release and had written to each member of the New York Congressional delegation objecting to the provision in the health care package that would have only prevented a portion of the cut. MSSNY strongly opposes any Continuing Resolution that does not fully restore the 2.8 percent cut to Medicare. A partial restoration is not adequate.

This remains a very fluid situation. Please remain alert as MSSNY will continue its advocacy on this issue over the holidays.
