
Shutdown Poses Risks to Practices, Patient Health
Many hospitals and physicians have been forced to suspend offering telehealth services for their Medicare patients or charge fees due to the federal government shutdown, which Medical Society of the State of New York President Dr. David Jakubowicz said could lead to more serious complications or hospitalizations for patients. “It’s another barrier to care,” he said.
“If a physician is not sure they’re going to get paid for something or paid promptly for it, they may not elect to do those services. In order to pay your employees, you need a certain amount of revenue coming in,” Jakubowicz added.
