The New York State Department of Health has issued an updated advisory regarding Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) surveillance and reporting requirements for the 2024-2025 season. Healthcare providers, laboratories, hospitals, and long-term care facilities are urged to closely follow the updated guidelines, which include enhanced surveillance starting from September 29, 2024, until May 17, 2025.

Key points include:

  • Mandatory reporting of RSV-associated pediatric deaths for children under 18.
  • Laboratories must report all positive RSV test results to the Electronic Clinical Laboratory Reporting System (ECLRS).
  • Hospitals are required to submit weekly reports on RSV hospitalizations and deaths through the Health Electronic Response Data System (HERDS).
  • Facilities must report any RSV outbreaks, particularly in healthcare settings and community facilities.

Healthcare providers are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the new reporting procedures to help prevent and manage RSV cases effectively. For more information, visit the official NYSDOH website or contact your local health department.
