MSSNY Members: Wrongful Death Bill Would Be Devastating for N.Y.

The Legislature’s wrongful death bill will have dire consequences without a veto from Gov. Kathy Hochul, forcing physicians to flee New York and causing operating costs to skyrocket, which will leave struggling public hospitals and clinics bankrupt and threaten patient access to care, write MSSNY members Dr. Jacob Moalem, governor and president of the New York chapter of the American College of Surgeons, and Dr. Anthony Vine, vice president of the chapter. If lawmakers collaborate with health care professionals, “we can develop a thoughtful, measured approach that not only protects the rights of grieving families but also promotes patient safety and ensures access to quality care for all New Yorkers,” they write.
