Coalition Urges Hochul to Veto Expansion of Wrongful Death Statute

The Medical Society of the State of New York and 34 other organizations are urging Gov. Kathy Hochul to again veto a bill that would expand the state’s wrongful death statute to allow damages for emotional anguish. The coalition cites a report from actuarial Milliman showing that the bill would lead to a 40% increase in medical professional liability premiums and that it would have identical economic impacts as previous versions.
