Dr. Douglas DeLong, Educator and MSSNY Member, Receives Lifetime Achievement Award
MSSNY congratulates Douglas DeLong, MD, MACP, on receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award from the New York Chapter of the American College of Physicians (NYACP). The award was presented at a reception in Albany, NY, on October 10, in recognition of Dr. DeLong’s decades-long dedication to patient care, medical education, and professional advocacy.
Dr. DeLong served for 18 years as Chief of the Division of General Internal Medicine at Prime Care, Bassett Healthcare Network, where he became a respected mentor and advocate for primary care internal medicine in rural Upstate New York. His colleagues describe him as “a tireless champion for internal medicine,” teaching countless students and residents throughout his career. Though he retired from full-time practice in 2022, Dr. DeLong continues to teach Bassett residents weekly during outpatient rotations and serves as Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine at Columbia University’s Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons.
Beyond the clinic, Dr. DeLong has been an active member of organized medicine. He joined MSSNY in 2001, serving as a delegate to the MSSNY House of Delegates, and was President of the Otsego County Medical Society from 2007–2008.
Known for his sincerity, clarity, and moral leadership, Dr. DeLong embodies the best of New York medicine, dedication to service, education, and integrity in practice.
