Cohen: Patients Want Physician Oversight of PAs

Patients want physician oversight of their care when being treated by physician assistants, says Jerome C. Cohen, MD, president of the Medical Society of the State of New York, noting that PAs “are an integral part of our health care delivery system. But it is important to stress that not only is physician oversight essential for care quality, it is also what patients want.” PAs in the state are pushing for a measure to allow them to practice without supervision from physicians.
