Press Coverage of MSSNY’s Support for Medical Aid in Dying
New York lawmakers are expressing confidence that the medical aid in dying proposal under consideration will be passed before the legislative session ends in early June. The bill was amended several times to allay opponents’ concerns, according to sponsors Assemblywoman Amy Paulin and Sen. Brad Hoylman-Sigal, with the change allowing physicians to decline to participate in the process, encouraging the Medical Society of the State of New York to switch its historic opposition to medical aid in dying. MSSNY President Dr. Jerome Cohen noted the society supports the right of a terminally ill patient who is suffering to choose how they die. Crain’s New York Business/Pulse.
MSSNY’s support for medical aid in dying was also featured this week in Gothamist (New York) and the Times Union (Albany, N.Y.).
