NYSDOH to Repeal COVID-19 Vaccine Requirement for Health Care Workers

The NYS Department of Health has begun the process of repealing COVID-19 vaccine requirements for health care workers across New York and will no longer enforce the mandate. The repeal requires approval by the state’s Public Health and Health Planning Council, and on Wednesday the state sent a letter to all health care providers informing them of this action.

MSSNY participated in a call with the Department of Health earlier this week and learned that this rollback will impact healthcare facilities and providers under Articles 28, 36, and 40 of the Public Health Law and includes assisted living facilities. The current policy requires that a health care worker have the initial series of COVID-19 immunizations.

DOH will draft new regulations before the next Public Health and Health Planning Council (PHHPC) meeting and anticipates that the process of repealing the mandate will take one to two months. Questions or concerns can be addressed to [email protected][email protected], and [email protected].
