New Study Reveals Physician Compensation isn’t Keeping Up with Inflation

The 2023 Doximity Physician Compensation Report reveals that physician salaries have not kept pace with inflation, with an average increase of 1.7% in 2022 compared to 2.5% in 2021. However, the report also shows that certain medical specialties are seeing higher compensation increases, such as cardiology and emergency medicine, while others, like pathology and psychiatry, are declining. In addition, there continues to be a gender pay gap in medicine, with female physicians earning, on average, 26.5% less than their male counterparts. The report also highlights the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on physician compensation, with many physicians experiencing reduced hours or pay due to the pandemic’s effects on the healthcare industry.
