MSSNY Calls on Congress to Stop Medicare Payment Cuts to Physicians
Not Some of It, but the Entire Cut!!
Statement attributable to:
Jerome Cohen, MD
President
Medical Society of the State of New York
“It’s outrageous that Congress wants to once again abandon seniors by failing, YET AGAIN, to fully stop yet another real dollar cut to Medicare payment to physicians. Hundreds of members of the House and Senate, including 18 members of the New York Congressional delegation and Senator Gillibrand have signed letters to leaders urging that this cut be prevented – in its entirety!
“Yet Congressional leaders want to stop only a portion of the cut, and even that only for a few months. This would make this the 5th straight year that physicians have faced real dollar cuts even as all the costs of running of a medical practice continue to rise significantly every year (2024 Medicare updates compared to inflation chart | AMA). This is grossly unfair. New York physicians are already struggling to keep their doors open, leading to reductions in access to care for our seniors. Failing to fully stop this cut in its entirety and taking steps to end this annual Medicare madness will make this problem even worse.
“Our message is simple – Congress cannot go home for Christmas without fully preventing this cut. New York physicians are calling on our House and Senate leaders, including Senate Majority Leader Schumer, House Minority Leader Jeffries, and House Republican Conference Leader Stefanik, to stand up for our patients and lead bi-partisan efforts to stop the entirety of these unfair cuts. If not, our patients will continue to lose access to their physicians.”
