Medical Society Praises Introduction of New Federal Bill to Stop Cuts to Medicare Physician Payments
Dr. Jerome Cohen, President of the Medical Society of the State of New York (MSSNY) praised the upcoming introduction of federal legislation – the Medicare Patient Access and Practice Stabilization Act of 2025 – which will stop the current 2.83 % Medicare cuts and provide a 2 percent update for 2025. The bill is expected to be introduced next Thursday, February 6, 2025, during the pro forma session of the U.S. House of Representatives.

Jerome Cohen, MD
President, Medical Society of the State of New York
“It is imperative that Congress immediately address its failure during the December continuing resolution (CR) debate to stop the steep Medicare cuts that our nation’s dedicated physicians are now facing in 2025. After facing Medicare cuts in each of the previous 4 years, and at a time when we are facing significant access to care issues across New York State, the lack of action by Congress to fix this problem has the potential to worsen seniors’ access to comprehensive care.
“We are hopeful that this bill introduction is the first step towards addressing this access to care crisis. We’d also like to thank Representative Claudia Tenney for joining her Republican and Democratic colleagues as a co-sponsor of this important bill, as well as the many New York delegation members who strongly supported efforts throughout last fall to prevent these cuts.
“MSSNY looks forward to activating its members to support and help advance the bill in this year’s Congress.”
