Outline of Coursework
The Medical, Education and Science Foundation (MESF) and the Medical Society of the State of New York announces the Women Physicians Leadership Academy (WPLA)–a series of virtual leadership webinars held for physicians, residents, and medical students.
The Women Physicians Leadership Academy (WPLA) will be held during the fall on over a series of Saturdays on October 21, 28 and November 4, 2023, from 7:45-11 a.m. Topics will include: effective communication, advocacy and changemaking, and leadership. There will also be a spring virtual session on March 2, 9, and 16th, 2024. Topics for the spring session include: the importance of networking, physician wellness and climbing the career ladder.
Participants can earn a maximum of 18 continuing medical education credits upon the completion of fall and spring series. To register for the October sessions please click HERE.
Educational objectives for the series are:
- Describe methods to improve women physicians’ communications skills within work or professional settings including the C-Suite.
- Identify professional skills to enhance advocacy of self and the development of professional networking.
- Develop leadership skills.
- Outline methods to enhance physician wellness.
Patrice Harris, MD, Past AMA President, will facilitate the fall session, and Julie Silver, MD, founder of Harvard Medical School women physicians’ leadership course, will lead the spring session.
An outline of the full agenda for the fall session is below, but confirmed speakers for some of the sessions include Carladenise Edwards, PhD, Board Director, Strategic Advisor; Bea Grouse, RN, JD, CEO, Healthcare Association of New York; Geraldine McGinty, MD, MBA. Also, New York State Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins; Assemblymember Deborah J. Glick; Assemblymember Amy Paulin; and Past AMA Presidents Nancy Nielsen, MD PhD and Susan Bailey, MD.

Participants have the ability to earn up to 18 free continuing medical education credits if they attend the fall and spring sessions. This program will also be placed online on the MSSNY CME website if a participant misses one of the courses in the series. CME credit will be awarded for participation through the website. This program is made possible through a grant from The Physicians Foundation.
The Medical Society of the State of New York is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
The Medical Society of the State of New York designates this live activity for a maximum of 1.0 AMA PRA Category 1 credits™ per session. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
