Bloomberg Philanthropies Launches First-of-Its-Kind Innovative Healthcare-Focused High Schools in 10 Urban and Rural Communities Across the Country

Bloomberg Philanthropies has just launched a monumental $250 million initiative to transform the future of healthcare labor. In collaboration with health systems like Northwell Health and New York City Public Schools, this project aims to build a pipeline of skilled healthcare workers straight from high school. The high schools will be uniquely designed to blend traditional academics with specialized healthcare classes, where students can transition directly into well-paying healthcare roles upon graduation. These schools, set to open between 2024 and 2026, will educate nearly 6,000 students and offer them real-world healthcare credentials and college credits.

This initiative is more than just education; it’s a visionary approach to tackle the long-term labor shortage in healthcare. With innovative work-based learning experiences, including job shadowing and paid internships, students will be job-ready and primed to join the workforce.
