Bernadette A. Riley, DO Elected Assistant Secretary
of the Medical Society of the State of New York

MSSNY is the State’s Primary Professional Organization for Physicians

Westbury, NY—April 7, 2025 – Bernadette A. Riley, DO, MS was elected Assistant Secretary of the Medical Society of the State of New York (MSSNY) on April 5. Dr. Riley is currently the Director of New York Institute of Technology’s Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS)/Hypermobility Treatment Center and Professor of Family Medicine at NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine.

A graduate of Fordham University (BS-2001), New York College of Osteopathic Medicine (DO-2005) and NYIT (Master of Science in Clinical Nutrition with Distinction-2023), Dr. Riley’s postgraduate training started as an ENT/Facial Plastic surgery intern at the former Union Hospital, NJ (2005-2006) and she completed two years of residency at the Union Hospital/Newark Beth Israel/St. Barnabas Medical Center (2006-2008) before switching specialties. She finished her Family Medicine and Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment residency at Long Beach Medical Center (2010), where she served as Chief Resident (2009-2010), and was awarded Family Medicine Resident of the Year (2010). She is fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians (FACOFP).  Dr. Riley is board certified in Family Medicine and Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine by AOBFP and Family Medicine by the ABFM (DABFM).

Dr. Riley achieved an academic qualification in international medicine and public health from the Institute for International Medicine. She was inducted as a fellow of the Institute of Leadership in Medicine (FILM) and ACOFP’s Physician Leadership Institute and became a certified physician leader. Dr. Riley is a member of the national faculty for the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners (NBOME).

Dr. Riley has been active in advocacy for many years. She was elected President of the New York State Osteopathic Medical Society (NYSOMS 2022-2024).  She is an alumni of the American Osteopathic Association’s (AOA) Training in Policy Studies (TIPS) Fellowship (2010) and graduated from American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM) Osteopathic Health Policy Fellowship (OHPF Class of 2020). Dr. Riley is also currently the Vice President for the Nassau County Medical Society, a member of the Nassau Academy of Medicine (NAM) Board of Trustees and serves as Chair of NAM’s Education Committee.

In addition, Dr. Riley is a committee member for MSSNY’s Women Physicians Committee, and serves as faculty, speaker and chair of subgroups for the Women Physician Leadership Academy.  She is also a delegate for MSSNY and for the American Osteopathic Association.

Dr. Riley has a passion for mentorship and medical education, and she wrote the curriculum and started the EDS 4th year elective (MTFP 890), Congressional Health Policy 4th year elective (MTPU 850) and the 2 year Congressional Health Policy Fellowship which seeks to equip and train rising leaders to transform health, health care and health policy at the local, state and national level.

Dr. Riley lives in Bayville and enjoys reading, writing and art.
